CNET First Look
Pantech C120The Pantech C120 is a decent choice for anyone seeking an easy-to-use phone for making calls. Frequent users should look elsewhere, however.
[ Music ] ^M00:00:02 >> Hi. I'm Kent German, senior editor at CNET.com. Today we're going to take a First Look at the Pantek C120. This is a phone for Cingular Wireless service. The last Pantek we saw, the C300 was so small, it was only about that big and about that wide. This one's a little bigger, but it's still pretty compact. It's actually designed for Cingular's prepaid Go service and for their normal contract service as well. Overall the design is pretty basic. Just your simply candy bar shape. Not a lot going on, but it is a basic phone. It doesn't have a lot of features. a simple design is fine with us. See the display here? Pretty big for the phones overall design, I thought. Pretty good color resolution as well. A lot of Pantek screens tend to have a slight washed out effect and this screen is like that, but its fine overall, especially considering the phone's price. Moving down to the keypad buttons and navigation, they are a pretty good size and are pretty well spaced. And I do like the joystick here in the middle. It's a five way joystick. Pressing down on it will actually choose a function as well. Although I'm not in love with that if you press down on it, it actually opens the web browser. I'd really like it if you pressed down on it and it actually opens the menu instead. Here on this side you just have a volume rocker. Here on this side you have a camera button, although it's not labeled as such and you have a covered headset jack. On the back, simply a camera lens and a self portrait mirror with a small speaker. No flash, but it is just a simple VGA camera, so it's not a huge deal. The features are pretty basic. It does have a speaker phone, it does have instant messaging, but overall just your basic phone and we really recommend it if you have it for occasional, but not too frequent use. I'm Kent German, this is the Pantek C120. ^M00:01:26 [ Music ]
