Panasonic X5: The worst plasma of 2012?
-Until today as I stand here, I've been able to recommend every Panasonic TV in their range.
It just depends on how much you want to spend.
But today, the buck stops here.
I'm Ty Pendlebury from cnet.com and this is the Panasonic X5.
Panasonic is a company which prides itself on its picture quality and the VT50 is the best television on the market for that reason, but this reputation doesn't extend to the X5.
This is the worst plasma I've seen this year.
While you can't tell from the stylish piano black exterior, inside hides as picture so foul we've even given it a name.
The X5's problems are twofold.
One, the TV has the loudest black levels by far of any of the Panasonics.
And two, its color is pretty terrible.
We're talking green, green, green, green, green, green.
The picture is so green that we've coined the TV--
-While shadow detail is very good, shadows are also green.
-And skin tones?
Its skin tones make even George Hamilton took like he's never seen the sun.
Everyone else is kind of sickly looking and there's no way to change it.
If I was looking at buying a cheap plasma today of about $500, I would run pretty quickly from this one and urge you instead to look at the Samsung E450 plasma TV.
This has been Ty Pendlebury with the terrible Panasonic X5 plasma television.
