Tap That App
Old-school arcade hitsWe're going old-school this week with a pair of Android games that should have you feeling like a kid (or perhaps a slightly younger adult) again.
Whats goin on, folks--Im Jaymar Cabebe, and welcome to Tap That Appthe show where we be tappin some hot pieces of app. You know what Im sayin. So today, we are taking it to the old school by checking out a couple of classic arcade games, reincarnated for Android. 80s babiesyou pumped your fair share of quarters into these games, Im sure. And 90s kidsyes, we used to have to put actual quarters into arcade games. Seriously. OK, so first up, weve got R-Type. Yezzir, that late 80s banger that stole all your money and made you feel like you had zero shoot-em-up skills is back. Just as fun and as mind-blowingly difficult as before, R-Type for Android comes more-or-less identical to its arcade predecessor, save for the touchscreen newness, of course. There are a few different control options, all of which are super smooth. Plus, theres an Autofire option that is an absolute must. For those who havent played it before, in R-Type you are a futuristic star-fighter whose only objective is to shoot aliens a whole crapload of aliens. Any other plot points are irrelevant. As you make your way through levels, you can grab speed-ups, upgrade your guns, and pick-up these unique little things called Force orbs. Its super fun, damn near impossible to beat, and totally worth its $2.99 price tag in the Android Market. Now this next game, Im pretty sure I spent at least a hundred million quarters on back in the day. Not lying. So, remember the old widescreen 6-player X- Men game at the arcade? Yeah, that one. Now its on Android. And its exactly as we all remember it. Magneto is trying to take over the city, and the X-Men have to stop him. And of course, you can choose from 6 classic X-People to play as. Me personally? I like Nightcrawler because hes fast, and hes got a tail. From there, just Punch, Jump, and Kick your way through Magnetos henchman. And when things get tough, you can use your Mutant Powers to pretty much decimate everyone on screen. Very awesome. And if youve got a friend who has the game, you can even go Multiplayer via Wi-Fi. You can download X-Men for a totally reasonable 99 cents in the Android Market. Thats it for this week. If you know of any apps that you want us to tap, hit us up at email@example.com, or shoot a Tweet to @jaymarcabebe. Thanks for watching.
