CNET First Look
Nokia 7705 Twist (Verizon Wireless)The Nokia Twist 7705's bizarre design won't be for everyone, but it pulls through with decent features and good call quality. On the otherhand, it's not a practical Internet or multimedia device.

This is quite an unusual phone I've never seen anything like it. This is a swivel phone and square, in fact it's perfectly square. It is a little weird looking I have to say. I can see how you'd either love or hate this device. Some people might find it kind of cool. It is a clean look. It's got a thin profile. Maybe some people would find it a little a vanguard but I think a lot of people would find it kind of dull, maybe uninspiring and just frankly weird as I said. While it does give you the full width it can mean that you won't see as many lines of the text particularly when you composing a message. Doesn't make a huge difference in usability but just wanted to point that out. Below you see a navigation toggle that's really the only physical control on the front of the phone. This over here is actually a hole that goes right to the middle of the phone. It's actually the point on which the phone swivels. I think Nokia made a good move on putting the swivel point over here rather than on the middle of the phone that we've seen on other swivels in the past. This is actually called a contact ring. It will light up when you have a message you get a call from a contact in your phone book. To open the phone you just swivel it just like that. Swivel phones in the past worried about their long term durability, this feels fine for right now but I did have a Sony Ericson swivel, I used it for several months and the thing fell apart after awhile so would be worried about the long term durability. Back to display it is pretty bright, it's colorful, it has a nice resolution. Below we have a full keyboard with a lot of controls. Actually despite the phones small size I found this keyboard to be pretty comfortable, they're also pretty large. A lot of shortcut keys here on the top. You'll find a messaging menu, music player, web browser, speaker phone, voice dialing and for the camera so really like that available shortcuts. Couple of things I weren't crazy about is the numbers are in the middle of the keyboard, found that just a little strange to get used to. Also the talk and end keys aren't on the front of the phone so that means that you do have to have the phone open to make even to receive calls so really would be better if we had a few more things you could do with the phone closed. Camera is on the back you see it right here there's a flash surrounding it and also this back of this function is a huge self portrait mirror so pretty full featured camera even though the photo quality wasn't the best. Features are what you'd expect for a 3G phone. It is EVDO rev 0 so you'll find V-CAST video, V-CAST Music with Rhapsody, Speaker phone, organizer options, Bluetooth, USB mass storage and voice dialing. [Background music ] >> Kent German: So full featured phone just a strange design. You're definitely gonna want to get this, handle it and see if you like it.
