Nest's Learning Thermostat gets even smarter, easier to use
Nest finally has a temperature sensor.
So we thought we'd revisit our original review from 2015 to see what, if anything, this long awaited accessory adds to the company learning thermostat.
Not a lot has changed with the $249 Nest thermostat since it was introduced a few years To go.
Hardware wise, it has a larger display than its predecessor as well as an improved resolution.
A far field sensor give you details like the current weather forecast at a glance from up to about 20 feet away.
This model also works with home away assist.
meaning the sensor built into the thermostat can help determine whether you and the rest of your family are home.
Home or away.
And automatically adjust your thermostat accordingly.
The Learning Thermostat also works with Google Assistant and Alexa voice commands, so you can ask it to adjust the temperature, or even what the current temperature is, without having to use your phone or turning the dial on the thermostat itself.
Nest's temperature sensor costs $39 as a stand-alone accessory, and $19 when purchased with a learning thermostat.
On the app screen, each sensor gives you a quick look at the temperature in different parts of the house.
You can also manually switch between your thermostat and your sensors to set which device you want to use for your default temperature reading, or schedule them to switch automatically.
The Nest Learning Thermostat is definitely worth consideration.
But the Eco B4 has more smart integrations and it comes with a temperature sensor, all for the same $249 price.
