Man-made photosynthesizing leaf could breathe air into buildings, spaceships, Ep. 168
Hey guys, how's it going?
My name is Stephen Beacham.
Here's what's happening this weekend at c/net's Crave blog.
Okay, this one's gonna get people worked up.
These shoes use Google Maps to buzz you in the right direction.
I know it sounds crazy but Ducere Technologies based in India has designed Lechal.
Smart shoes and insoles which sink via bluetooth with your smart phone and google maps app and will buzz with right or left foot letting you know when it's time to change direction.
The shoes charge with what's called the worlds first interactive.
The charger, which will audibly tell you the battery level when you snap your fingers.
The battery slips into a slot in the back of the shoe or the back of the insole.
While out and about, you can receive notifications on your
Your shoe, or tap your foot to pin a location for the future.
Potential uses for these shoes include proximity alerts, tourist notifications of nearby landmarks, as well as fitness tracking, obviously.
You can currently sign up to be notified when pre-orders for the [UNKNOWN] shoes begin.
And it will cost around $135.
Dog lovers, a new service will launch your deceased pet into space Houston based Celestis Pets is offering packages for sending your beloved pet into Earth's orbit and beyond if you can afford it.
For $1,000, Celestis Pets will send your canine contained in an urn on a trip around the earth and return them to you.
For $12,500 plus, the Luna and Voyager package from Celestis Pets will launch your best friend to the moon and beyond.
This tiny Android-powered projector called the TouchPico can display an 80 inch touchscreen onto any surface.
The TouchPico is currently raising funds in IndieGoGo and comes loaded with Android 4.4, WiFi, Bluetooth, and HDMI input, a built-in speaker, 4 gigabytes of internal memory, and an 80-lumens projector.
The touch screen requires a fat infrared stylus because fingers alone won't do the trick alone, unfortunately.
But the possibilities for use in classrooms, offices and at home just having fun playing games like angry birds are a plenty [NOISE] Wait, who plays Angry Birds anymore?
Is this 2012?
The battery life is lacking, and the projector only lasts about 1.5 to two hours on a single charge.
The projector has blazed well past its [UNKNOWN] so pre-order yours soon.
And finally, long time fans of The Simpsons and Family Guy because Homer Simpson and Peter Griffin will finally meet on a special crossover episode.
So, of The Simpsons and Family Guy airing on September 28th, here is what we can expect.
Hey knock it off, there's a kid back there.
[LAUGH] I'm in danger.
This man-made leaf is able to photosynthesize and produce oxygen from carbon dioxide.
It sounds like something out of a science fiction movie, but this is the real deal.
Julian Melchiorri, a graduate of the Royal College of Art has created the first man-made biologically functional leaf that breathes.
In carbon dioxide, water and light and exhale oxygen.
By extracting the chloroplast from plant cells where photosynthesis takes place and suspending it inside silk protein material, taken from silk fibers.
The chloroplast is able to stabilize and maintain its regular plant function.
The man-made leaves are very light and low energy.
[INAUDIBLE] And may some day be used for long space expeditions, providing natural oxygen to crew members.
Julian also envisions a future where the manmade leaves could be used to oxygenate homes and city buildings, with leaf light fixtures or outdoor applications used to keep buildings.
Cool and oxygenated.
All right guys, that's the show.
Thank you very much for watching.
