Look ma, no hands! Testing Google's Hands Free payments
Can I play with Google, please?
Can I help you?
Hi, can I please have apple pie?
One apple pie?
That'll be 97 cents.
Can I pay with Google, please?
Sure, can I have your initials place.
So now I'm back with my McDonald's whole, how does hands free actually work?
Well, it uses Bluetooth low energy, wi-fi, and location services to determine where you are.
Now, this concept of hands free isn't exactly new.
Both PayPal and Square have experimented with it in the past.
google transfer is separate, and totally separate from android pay.
Now when we asked google about security and tokenization.
That is a one time use credit card number to, essentially, mask your credit card or debit card information.
All google did was point out the official website with Says this about security.
Hands Free never shares your full credit card number with the store.
And all your payment details are stored securely and shared only with the payment processor.
After my first successful transaction, I went back a few times within the space of 20 minutes to buy more things.
And reach time after that I had to actually manually approve the transaction on my phone.
Hands free is available in a limited trial rollout in the south bay of San Francisco.
You can see the location of all the stores in the app.
So, Hands Free, it works, but now I'm gonna see if I can eat this apple pie hands free.
