Lenovo promises world's lightest 13-inch laptop and hybrid with the LaVie Z seriesIn partnership with NEC, Lenovo offers a 13-inch laptop at 1.7 pounds, and a Yoga-style hybrid at just over two pounds.
[MUSIC] Just how light can a laptop get? I'm Dan Ackerman, here at CES 2015 with the Lenovo LaVieZ. There are two products in this new LaVieZ series. It's actually something that came out of a partnership, between Lenovo and NEC, designed to, make and sell computers in Japan. And this is the first model from that partnership that's actually making it outside of Japan, into. The rest of the world, and it's pretty amazing. These are two 13 inch laptops. This one is a regular clam shell laptop. And this little EZ is a hybrid, like a Yoga, so it folds all the way back like that, and it's got a touch screen. And the amazing part here is how light they are. The clamshell weighs, and I weighed this myself, 1.7 pounds [MUSIC] Which is a lot less than you would think. You pick it up, you're just shocked. You think it's a hollow like shell. And the hybrid version weighs just a hare of two pounds, like 2.04 pounds. Also insanely light for something like this. Even the really light Lenovo Yoga 3 Pro. Is, is more than two and a half pounds. It's significantly heavier. Now how do they do this? That's because it's made from a new magnesium lithium alloy that Lenovo says is just as strong as a standard magnesium alloy. Weighs half as much. And even more amazing- they manage to put. [MUSIC] Intel's new fifth generation core iSeries processors. Those are the broadwell processors you're hearing so much about at CES. So it should just be regular full powered laptops. Both of these guys are going to be available, at least in the U.S. in May. And they're gonna cost $1299 and $1499. And I just can't emphasize so much how amazingly light these guys feel in the hand. I'm Dan Ackman and that is the Lenovo Lavie Z. PM. [MUSIC]
