Judge to Trump: Start unblockingA federal judge ruled that President Trump can't block Twitter users, even if they disagree with his politics.
It looks like President Trump has a lot of unblocking to do. A federal judge ruled POTUS can't block Twitter users from following him, even if they're critical of his policies. Seven users filed suit in July of 2017, arguing getting blocked violated their First Amendment rights. A US district court judge agreed with the plaintiffs. Writing in her ruling that the @realDonaldTrump Twitter account quote, is a designated public forum. And that the blocking of the plaintiffs based on their political speech constitutes viewpoint discrimination that violates the first amendment, unquote Translation, public officials can't block people on Twitter even if they're the president of the United States. The Knight First Amendment Institute which sued the president on behalf of the black user's and the Department of Justice which represented President Trump in this case didn't immediately respond to requests for comment.
