ID Buzz is Volkswagen's electrified, autonomous van of the futureThe second of VW's ID series of electric concepts is a futuristic take on on of its most iconic designs.
Volkswagen newest concept is the I.D. Buzz right here. It's based on the same modular electric power train that underpinned the I.D. concept we saw in Paris last year. Which means it's got an electric motor at the rear axle and a flat battery pack underneath the floor. However, the I.D. Buzz also features a second electric motor on the front axle which gives all wheel drive. Total power stated somewhere in the neighborhood of 369 horsepower, and with it's 110 kilowatt hour battery pack, range is stated at around 270 miles on American roads. Zero to 60 happens in just around 5 seconds. So, it's fast, but that's really not the point, because the top speed's only around 99 miles per hour. On top of that flat, skateboard like, power train, is a body that's inspired by the Volkswagen Type 2 Microbus. Easily, one of the most iconic vehicles in Volkswagen's portfolio, and in automotive history. That boxy shape's gonna give it a whole lot of space inside for people, and things, including two luggage compartments. One at the front, and one at the back, and re-configurable seating for up to eight passengers Of course it's built from the ground up with autonomy in mind, so it can handle itself fully autonomous on the highway at up to around 80 miles per hour. And will flag in a vision of the future where this vehicle can even park itself in a multi-level parking garage. Now it's just a concept for now, but Volkswagen does have semi-concrete plans to bring its electric ID line to life. It'll start in around 2020 with the I.D. compact hatchback that we saw previously, followed by yet unrevealed electric SUV. The I.D. buzz right here will follow up at around the year 2022 or 2025-ish. [BLANK_AUDIO]
