CNET First Look
Huawei Ideos X5The Huawei Ideos X5 isn't attached to a U.S. carrier yet, but the unlocked Android 2.2 smartphone certainly deserves a spot in the lineup.
Hi I'm Jessica Dolcourt with cnet.com. I'm taking a first look at the unlocked Huawei Ideos X5. This is the phone that I first saw at CES. It runs Android 2.2. This is Froyo. What's interesting is that it runs without one of the extra skins that manufactures sometimes put on, so this is stock Android. It's got a 3.8 inch screen. It's large. It looks really sharp and bright. There are the 4 touch sensitive navigation buttons below the screen, although this is a mid range phone, it's got a little of brushed metal hardware around the edge that makes it look a little bit more premium. There's a 5-megapixel camera on the back with an LED flash. There is no shutter button for the camera though, so that's a little bit of pity. There is a micro SD card slot behind the back cover and that holds up to 32 gigabytes of external memory. Since this is Android 2.2, it comes with all of the Google services that you come to expect, support for Flash 10.1, Google mail and navigation and all the works. It also has some pre-loaded games inside. So, overall, you are looking at pretty good phone here with that nice screen and if feels really good in the hand with the soft back cover. It feels good on the ear. Right now, there is no US carrier information or pricing, but kept checking back with us and hopefully we'll have that for you pretty soon.
