Fujitsu HandyDriveThe Fujitsu HandyDrive isn't very small or exceptionally well-designed, but like all the best things in life, it's fast and cheap. At 26 cents per gigabyte, the HandyDrive gives the best deal for your dollar, and we recommend it to those who are running...
[ Music ] ^M00:00:03 >> Hey, it's Justin Yu, associate editor for CNET.com, here to give you a First Look at this Fujitsu HandyDrive external hard drive. Now, this only comes in black, but it also comes in four capacities, 250, 320, 400, and 500 gigabytes. Now, this one is 320-gigs, and it currently costs $85.00, or 27 cents per gigabyte, which makes this external drive the best deal for the money we've tested so far. Now, as you can see, there aren't really a lot of bells and whistles in the design department, and compared to other drives that have fancy features like a rugged exterior, glossy colors, the Fujitsu seems pretty bland. Now, there's only two ports on the top here, a mini USB plug for connecting your computer, and an external DC in port. The drive is entirely powered by USB, so you shouldn't need that extra power, but it's nice to have just in case. Now, there's another story inside the hood as well. Underneath this shiny plastic is a layer of shock endurance to protect from light impact, but it's definitely not gonna be as tough as other drives that offer an external buffer as well. Now, we conducted our speed test, as always, and found that the HandyDrive is as fast as it is cheap at 27.94 megabytes per second to read, and 22.5 megabytes per second to write our 10-gigabyte folder. Now, the only drive that tested faster was the Transcend Storage at 25F, which is actually more expensive. Now, finally, we also liked that Fujitsu offers an extensive three-year warranty with the drive. Now, with all the abuse that external drives suffer through, we applaud Fujitsu's commitment to their products. So overall, the Fujitsu HandyDrive is an excellent option for shoppers that aren't really focused mainly on design. It's affordable, fast, and easily secures our buying recommendation. So I'm Justin Yu, and you just took a First Look at the Fujitsu HandyDrive external hard drive. Thanks for watching. ^M00:01:46 [ Music ]
