Frigid temps temper Verizon iPhone launchHP touts over 50 new features in WebOS 2.1 and unveils its TouchPad tablet, Pre 3 smartphone, and diminutive Veer smartphone. Meanwhile, freezing cold in NYC makes for an unusually timid iPhone launch for Verizon.
If Thursday February 10 on Jeff tobacco -- and it's time to get loaded. It's Verizon iPhone four launch day the phone became available at 7 AM in each respective time zone across the US. And here in New York CNET TV without the flagship Apple glass -- store to find out whether people wanted the phone enough to brave the freezing coal. Take a look. Hey it's Wilson -- here in New York City at the Verizon iPhone launched. As you can see it's pandemonium out here. There -- all of maybe ten people -- -- most of them actually reporters but you can't really blame them because it is 46 degrees. Here right now they must be crazy just as much as -- I thought there was going to be a really really big line I was surprised I got here around 630. And I was forced online so it's actually really happy but I thought I was expecting a lot more people -- So Apple along with all the tech media apparently thought that the launch to be a lot bigger I mean it's very obvious there's hundreds of Apple's -- inside. There's even -- barricade police -- out here. For the event looks like the cold in the cost of switching to -- contract. And maybe the fact that Verizon customers have been waiting for four years already music with a couple days to get their iPhone apples and -- here in New York. The HP finally unveiled the next generation web OS products we've been waiting for. An event in California former palm CEO Jon Rubin -- Took the wraps off its nine point seven inch tablet. Called the touch -- the -- features a 1024 by 760 screen. Weighs one and a half pounds has a front facing video camera for chat. Sixteen and 32 gigabytes of memory. Flash support beats by doctor drew speakers and a one point two gigahertz dual core snap dragon processor. At first the device will only be available for Wi-Fi. But HP plans on releasing three and four G versions later this year. In addition to the touch -- HP had to Smartphones up its sleeve. The first is the pre. HD video recording. Front facing camera and a one point four gigahertz Qualcomm processor. And will ship this summer. The other new phone the -- and is akin to a scaled down version of the pre in terms of size. It has a similar slide out keyboard but will support HS PA plus. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth eight gigabytes of storage and an 800 megahertz -- during processor. HP developed the -- as an alternative to what it sees as Jumbo sized phones. Now powering all these devices is webos two point one. Which -- fifty new features including the ability to create your own Wi-Fi hot spot with compatible devices. Its biggest feature is its ability to keep all your devices in sync including browsing history and contacts. If you're near another webos devices the software adds a touch to share function that begins a data transfer. Now webos two point one and -- new photo gallery also called exhibition. And you can wirelessly print to other HP printers finally HP says it's working on plans to bring webos to full size PCs and notebook computers. But provided no time frame.
