Spotify has overhauled free mobile listening to offer something none of its competitors can match.
Spotify is unlocking on-demand songs for free listeners on the go.
Everyone will be able to pick and play songs on personalized playlists like Discover Weekly.
You also get a selection of curative playlist like RapCaviar where you also have full control over what you play.
Other playlists were main and shuffle-only mode for free users.
The company also introduced a data saver mode to reduce how much data your streaming eats up by up to 75%.
And, it introduced mobile assistive play listing, which suggests song to add to play list that you make yourself.
So, if the free version is more like premium subscriptions why would anyone pay?
A paid Spotify member is still the only way to get full control over everything you listen to, and it's the only way to strip out all the app But by letting more people listen to more music for free, Spotify is betting that a, more people will start trying Spotify versus competitors.
And b, more people will migrate from free users to paid ones.
As the company puts it, the more you play, The more you pay.
