CNET First Look
Flip UltraHDFlip's UltraHD is back with better video, more storage, and a new accessory port.
-Hi. I'm Josh Goldman, Senior Editor with CNET Reviews, and this is a first look at the Flip Ultra HD or should I say the Flip Ultra HD 2 hour, which features 8G of internal memory. There's also an entry-level, 1-hour 4G version. These are separated by more than a storage capacity, though the 1-hour shoots video at a resolution of 720 P at 30 frames per second. While the 2-hour here, captures at 720 P at 60 frames per second, which gets you much smoother results. The 2-hour also gets you electronic image stabilization, a rechargeable battery pack, and an overall slimmer body. If all that's not enough to cough up $50 more, maybe the video camera's new flip port will do the trick. On the bottom here next to the micro HDMI port is a new proprietary port for adding third party accessories that will be able as part of a design for Flip program. So, while this Ultra HD still doesn't have an external mic jack, you'll be able to buy add-on microphones that will connect through the flip port. It can also be used for things like extra batteries, or chargers, or whatever else might come. Cases, covers, and attachable lenses will be available under the design for Flip program too. Of course, it wouldn't be a Flip without the USB connector and its embedded FlipShare software, the latest of which now lets you share directly to Twitter. All in all, it looks to be a solid update while staying as simple to use as the original. I'm Josh Goldman. That's a look at the Flip Ultra HD 2-hour.
