Eviant T7 7-inch portable LCD TVThe Eviant T7 7-inch portable TV works well as a kitchen TV or for use on the road so long as you don't stray too far from a charging source for too long.
>> David: Hi, I'm David Carnoy, Executive Editor for CNET.com and I'm here with the Eviant T7 7 inch portable LCD TV. Now a lot of you probably remember those little analog TV's that people used to carry around, those used to work until very recently but then we had the DTV transition and now they don't work, so now you have to pick up one of these new portable digital LCD TV's. Now, this guy will pick up both analog and digital signals and you can also plug in a cable line directly into this. It does have a Qam tuner so you won't pick up some cable stations, you won't pick up any premium channels but it will pick up the digital cable stations. The resolution here isn't all that high you're only looking at a 480 by 234 resolution TV so this is not a high definition TV, but the picture does look pretty good because when you do get a digital signal in it is clear. So while you're not getting a true HD picture you are getting a wide-screen images when that station is displaying a wide-screen image. This comes with both a telescoping antenna as well as an external antenna that allows you to pull in a signal a little bit better. It's a little bit more powerful. A couple of drawbacks design this does have the proverbial glossy black finish so it is a fingerprint magnet. It does come with a little felt carrying case and you will end up wiping the device off a lot with that case. Also, the rechargeable battery is sealed into the unit so if you do end up having to replace the battery it becomes much more difficult and may even be impossible to replace the battery on this unit. In some ways this device is very similar to a tablet style portable DVD player. But while some of those DVD players get close to 3 hours of battery life, even 4 hours of battery life one of the problems with the device is this only gets about 90 minutes to maybe 110 minutes. We got about 110 minutes in our test. There's a small remote that comes with the TV it changes channels and allows you to raise and lower the volume but you can not turn off the TV using the remote. Now, if you're thinking about using one of these in a car these aren't really designed to be used in a moving vehicle. There have been some reports that it does report on trains and other moving vehicles but I just don't think you can count on it working all the time in a car. In terms of connectivity you can use this as a display for other portable video devices. All in all we thought this was a pretty good little TV. It has a few shortcomings, the resolution isn't all that high and the battery life isn't all that good. That's pretty standard for these types of TV's. But it does make a pretty good little kitchen TV and if you want to take it on the road with you it certainly is compact, doesn't weigh all that much and provides a decent picture when you can get a digital signal. I'm David Carnoy and that's the Eviant T7 7 inch portable LCD TV. ^M00:02:40 [ Music ]
