E-mails from the GrinchIt's the last show of the year and we've rolled out some Mailbag answers, some holiday cheer notes, and some serious lumps of coal.
Hello, everyone! Im Molly Wood and welcome to the CNET Mailbag, the show where we read your emails, respond to your feedback, and try to answer your questions about the stuff we do here at CNET. This week is the last show of the year, so hold your sticker requests, hater mail, and incomprehensible ranting for after the holidays, and dont worry, Ill read them all. Lets get to the email. Matteo4m says: As a daily user of cnettv I have to express my disappointment with the changing of the HD button with 4 levels of quality. Worst of all now I have to full screen the video before I get the option to go full HD. If I go back to normal view to skip, or select the next video my video quality gets bumped down to 'high' quality instead of HD quality, who thought of this? I would like HD quality all the time and constantly switching back and forth is annoying. Matteo, youre one of many to write in with this same complaint. It turns out that, yes, true HD mode is only available in fullscreen mode. But our CNET TV product manager says the HD designation refers to dimension, not quality. So, in the regular player, you cant tell the difference between HD and high anyway, and it might even look worse, because the video will be scaled down on the fly. And were not paying for extra bandwidth to deliver you an HD stream that doesnt look any better than the other one. So, thats reasonable, but I suggested that they at least change the presentation so you dont think youre like, missing out on all the HD goodness. So, theyre thinking about that. Hang in there. Moving on, Greggport says: I just saw this weeks mail bag and was pleased when Molly talked about the new Android feature Scan and Shop. When going to Market I could not find it unfortunately. Please let me know if this my error or if they have not rolled it out as of yet. Yeah, last time I promote something before it launches. It hasnt yet. Hopefully it will soon! And for those of you who asked, no, theres not an iPhone version. I dont know. Itll happen. Next up, James from Wisconsin writes in about a recent car tech video: Wow, that Mazdaspeed 3 has an amazing interior! It almost looks like the interior of a Lincoln MKT! Wait a second... it is. Did anyone else notice this on the review of the Mazda? Wow, James, you win the prize for most eagle-eyed viewer of the week. This is how long that interior shot was up. Good eye, James. Plus, you identified the car? Nice. Thats fixed now. Ok, on to some holiday cheer emails. Joey says: I just watched the new episode of Apple Byte, and just wanted to say that I think that Brian Tong makes a better T-Pain than T-Pain himself. That whole studio clip was hysterical. I might not own a Mac (or an iPhone, anymore), but Brian Tong is awesome..and so are you Molly! Aww, nice. That was a classic Apple Byte, its true. Lots of love for Brian on that one. Next up, Josh writes: I would like to say how much of a joy it is watching Natali on Loaded. She is the perfect host and always has a smile on her face! Thank you Natali! :-) What a sweet email! But come on. We cant do holiday cheer without coal in the stocking. Here are a couple of Grinch emails. Mv11981 says: please get rid of Molly Wood... she's not funny, hot, or worth the mandatory BestBuy ads just to get to the news! what is she, the cnet founders niece or something? Nepotism? ugh. blah. And geani66 says: message: I love everything about you,but because of those STUPID best buy commercials,I'm going to take a break. There are absolutely STUPID. How many times have I told you? Just check Facebook! And finally, my favorite crazymail of the week. Anonymous writes: can you put a place where you can place questions unanimously with out having to send an email I dont I what, now? Like a box? Im confused. And thats it for this week, everyone, and thats the last regular show of the year! There WILL be a special end-of-year Mailbag episode coming next week that you wont want to miss. Other than that, Ill see you guys in 2010. Have a great holiday season, and thanks for watching.
