DoubleTwist for Android
Whats up guys and gals, Im Antuan Goodwin welcoming you to Tap that App, the show where we take
a look at the hottest apps for your mobile device.
One of the biggest issues that I had when switching to the Android platform was the lack of
music management software la Apples iTunes ecosystem.
I mean who wants to manually
drag folders full of MP3 to and from their SD card?
Thats when I found Doubletwist, an app that
touts itself as the iTunes for Android, but its much more than that.
The Doubletwist ecosystem is split into a few discrete parts that you can install separately.
Doubletwist app for Android itself is a replacement music player that allows you to browse your
music by artist, album, etc, as well as view videos, listen to podcasts, and stream Internet radio
Theres also Amazon MP3 Store integration for those whod like to make in-app album
The Doubletwist desktop software for Mac and PC is a full featured music management
application that allows you to subscribe to podcasts and organize your massive music, photo,
and video libraries.
You can even import your music library and playlists from iTunes and
Windows Media player.
There are a ton of options for deciding what media gets synced to your
The desktop software for windows can be a bit sluggish for our tastes at times, but the
pros here far outweigh the cons.
Both the Android app and desktop software are free and allow syncing over USB, but
Doubletwist does have another trick up its sleeve for those willing to be parted with the $1.99 it
will cost to do so.
Doubletwist AirSync is a paid Android app that allows the Doubletwist media
players on you phone and on you computer to communicate and sync over Wi-Fi, so you can
sync the latest episode of your favorite podcasts and the newest album purchase without having
to go digging for a USB cable.
AirSync speed is a bit slower than USB, but ultimately depends
on the speed of your wireless network.
AirSync also includes a neat feature called AirTwist that
allows users to stream music from certain Android devices to their Xbox360 or PS3 console
Wed definitely recommend that you tap the Doubletwist app for Android and the Doubletwist
desktop software if youre looking for a more automated way to manage your massive media
If you like the wired experience, you may want to go ahead and give AirSync a try too,
but were not 100% certain that all of you will want to go that far.
Thats it for this weeks show.
