Cracking Open the $7000 HP Z1 WorkstationBill Detwiler cracks open a $7000 HP Z1 all-in-one workstation and discovers a machine that's easy to service, packed with high-end hardware, and engineered to be cool and quiet.
This HP machine may look like just another run of the mill windows all in one but it's not. I'm build -- -- I'm going to show you what's inside this 7000. Dollar HPZ one workstation right here on cracking open. All in ones like the -- Offer a desktop computer and display in a single package. There are great way to free up a little desk space but their cases don't offer much room to expand. And they generally have less processing power than a traditional power. HP'S_Z. one is the exception. It's packed with high end hardware. Our test machine had 3.5 gigahertz Intel Xeon processor. Sixteen gigs of DDR 316100. ECC ram. And Nvidia quad -- 4000 M graphics card and not one but 2300. Gig SSDs. And -- the 27 inch iMac does he wants 27 inch display has a resolution of 2560. 1440. After cracking it open I can also say it's one of the easiest to service all in ones I've worked -- For starters the stand allows the machine to lie flat and the case -- more like the -- of a car than a computer. Second most of the internal components can be removed with Al tools when a screwdriver is required such -- to remove the motherboard or LCD -- A standard ports -- six work -- fifteen bit if all you need no tamper resistant screws here. Not only did HP build -- -- one to be easily serviced. They also design it to be cool and quiet which was a real engineering challenge given the machines high end hardware. The machine's six fans pull fresh air into each zone and push the heated air out without allowing air to move between the -- To reduce -- -- HP used large diameter France which can be turned more slowly and smaller ones. They also gave the -- 19 independent thermal sensors which control the fans speak only turning them as fast as is needed. My only complaints about the Z one -- minor first it's heavy. And over 47 pounds it's seventeen pounds heavier than the 27 inch iMac. Second and included HP wireless keyboard and mouse. Use so little USB adapter there's a special report inside the case for it but I don't know why HP just doesn't include a standard Bluetooth keyboard and mouse. Pricing for the -- one starts at 1899. US and goes up from there. Our test unit cost over 7000 dollars. As workstations ago the Z one is an entry level machine but -- the only workstation that's also what 27 inch all in one.
