[ Background music ] >> Tom Merritt: Hey at CES 2010 I'm Tom Merritt taking a look at the Control 4 EMS 100. EMS stands for energy management system, almost want to say emergency management system cause that's you know in first aid what it stands for but yet managing your power kind of as an emergency. It consists of 2 devices that are installed in a home automation network for you. You can get this just as a package or can integrate with other home automation networks. This is a thermostat, it's Zigby enabled so it communicates wirelessly with this, this is the EC100 Base Station and this is where all of the action happens. This is where you're able to go in and when it communicates with a Smart Meter you have to have a Smart Meter for this to work right now the way they have it it'll be able to track a lot of your energy usage and help you figure out what's going on. Where's your energy going? What stuff are you using? It even can tell you what rates things are at. It'll have sort of a threat level system of dots along the bottom to say hey you know the rate's high right now you might want to reduce your energy usage and cut things back. Also they have an app store control for it so you can add things like a clock, weather, traffic updates and you can use it as sort of a little internet base station as well if you like. They're expecting it to ship in Q2 to utilities and they think the utilities may even subsidize it so they'd be able to provide it to you as part of your electrical energy subscription because they want to get those energy usage down as well and then they'll phase in dealers able sell it after that so look for it Q2 at a utility near you. It's the EMS 100 from Control 4. At CES 2010 I'm Tom Merritt. [ Music ]
