Chestnut Hill Sound George iPod SpeakersThe Chestnut Hill Sound George iPod Speakers are what ideal iPod speakers should be--minus a few quirks that should be fixed via firmware upgrades--but they're really expensive.
[ Music ] ^M00:00:01 >> Hi I'm David Carnoy, executive editor for CNET.com and I'm here to tell you about the chestnut hill sound George, iPod speaker system and AM/FM clock radio. What makes this system unique is that it has a detachable remote built right into the system. Right there at the front you pull it out and what's on this interface mirrors what's on the interface on your iPod. It uses RF for radiofrequency technology to communicate with the main unit in control of your iPod from about 25 feet away. It doesn't have a touch scroll wheel but it does have a knob on the front, it makes the experience of navigating the remote very similar to that of the iPod. We did like the button at the top which it serves as both the mute button for the system as well as the snooze alarm button. This system as you see it comes in white but you will be able to customize its look with interchangeable side panels as well as interchangeable grill covers, that's an optional accessory but those will be available a little bit later on. The George has a couple other distinguishing features. One is its firmware is up gradable, so the company can add additional features as time goes on. The company has also left open the possibility of adding and HD radio module in the not so distant future. There is also the connection for the included AM/FM antennas as well as a knob on the back to adjust the base of the subwoofer. And right here is the connection for the USB cable which allows you to make firmware upgrades via your PC or Mac. One big drawback of the George is that it's an ex-pensive system. By the same token this is the only iPod speaker system that comes with a full featured iPod remote. It has a nicer, fine sound and it plays pretty loud but like with a lot of these small systems when you feed it music with heavy bass it doesn't do as well, it gets a little crunchy. I'm David Carnoy and this is the Chestnut Hill Sound George. ^M00:01:46 [ Music ]
