Canon Pixma MX410

-Hey, Justin Yu here, associate editor for CNET with a first look at the Canon Pixma MX410 all-in-one printer. Its dual-ink cartridge bay definitely limits its functionality and a snapshot photo printer. But if all you're looking to buy is a cheap $100 device that prints out boarding passes, trip itineraries, and brief news articles, the MX410 is a great buy. Its streamline design has a series of paper drawers and trays that fold out to the front and go flush into the contained body when you're not using it. And on the front, you also get a couple of hot keys for copy, fax, and scan functionality as well as a backlit power and start button with a blinking alarm that lets you know when you need ink. In terms of the messages themselves, you only get a two-line dot-matrix graphics display in the middle of the control panel. That as opposed to last year's Pixma MX330 that offered a prettier 1.8-inch LCD. But even still, the two-line is pretty adequate for day to day activities. Now, on top of the printer, you'll find an auto document feeder. That's something you don't normally find in a $100 printer, so that's if you wanna scan or copy up to 30 pages of documents at a time. And you get a standard scanner bay including below that lets you save images directly to a USB key that you can find and access on this port next to the output tray. The included CD walks you through the installation process and helps you set up Wi-Fi printing which is easy enough. It also contains Canon's new HD Movie Print feature that gives you the ability to pull still snapshots out of videos with compatible HD video cameras. That's a pretty cool feature. That's also a breeze to learn. In terms of speeds and print quality, the MX410 is just average but we would expect that out of a $100 printer. Again, you shouldn't buy this printer if you wanna print a high output of colored photos. Instead, Canon has plenty more models to choose from that are photo friendly, and you can read all the details in our CNET Review. That's gonna do it for me though.
