The Buzz Report
Buzz Report gets religionWe're not saying that Scientology is scary and more than a little bit crazy...except how we're totally saying that.
>> Hi I'm Molly Wood and welcome to the Buzz Report. This week bummer Apple news, stupid criminals, and Scientology. But first it's the gadget of the week. The gadget of the week is the new Dell G phone. It's a partnership between Dell and Google and it's an awesome multimedia device. There's an iPhone like touchscreen on the phone and then it slides up to reveal a corded keyboard like the LG Voyager. 5 megapixel camera with video capability and built GPS like the Nokia in 95. Then of course there's WiFi and 3G support, push email from exchange, a full FireFox browser, pretty much run any app I want. It's basically like a little tiny computer and it only costs 300 dollars unlocked. Okay, I'm sorry. None of that is true, right now there's just rumors that Dell and Google might put out a phone. But if they do it's gonna be just like that and you heard it here first. It's gonna happen, it's gonna happen. And now for the news. Apple has announced that it's software update to Apple TV which will let you rent Hi Def movies directly from your television, needs more time. Apple now says it will be available in another week or two. The news bummed out the hundreds of people who bought the Apple TV since the upgrade will transform it from a marginally useful home media extender to a powerful set top box with high definition movie rental capability. [ cheering ] That would bum me out too. But Apple did start shipping Mac Book Airs, huh? And ethernet dongles. This week brought us the most spectacle failure to launch that I can even remember in all my years on the web. The company: Qtrax which supposedly offers free and supported MP3's. The company announced it's launch late last week and said it had deals with all the major record labels. But then all the major record labels said they actually didn't have deals with Qtrax. And then the Qtrax service didn't launch, and then they released the service in Beta in the middle of this week even though they literally have no music available for download or purchase. And then Prince and some other artists basically issued press releases saying that Qtrax better not even try to touch their music, even if they do get deals with the record labels. Silver lining? We've totally all heard about Qtrax. In other stupid people news, a Swedish bank employee stopped a digital bank robbery this week leading to the arrest of 7 people. The robbers had used what a Swedish prosecutor called advanced technical equipment to take over the employee's computer. But the advanced technical equipment apparently didn't include the ability to turn off the computer monitor. The bank employee noticed that his machine was transferring millions of dollars to another bank and he turned it off. See now that's just embarrassing, everyone knows you don't start your bank robbery funds transfer until nighttime. And now it's time to find out what's clogging the tubes. What clogging the tubes this week is: Scientology. Now this Tom Cruise biography just came out and then everyone on the internet saw this internal scientology recruitment video where it goes extra crazy. >> Being a Scientologist, when you drive past an accident it's like anyone else. As you drive past, you know you have to do something about it because you know you're the only one that can really help. Then I just go through my attack and it's literally, it's not how to run from an SP, its PTSSP, how it shatters compression, you can buy it, it's like boom. >> And then tons of people spoofed it. >> I see a car accident, you pass it by. I get in, I go I get in and I'm like, what's up? Let's fix this. >> How do I deal with an SP? Well I'm just SP, I'm just. [ laughter ] >> I wish could go invitation. >> And now it's kind of like open season on Scientology. This week a group calling itself anonymous was defacing Scientology websites and then releasing all these other You Tube videos like this one. >> You have nowhere to hide because we are everywhere. You will find no recourse in attack Because for each of us that falls, ten more will take this place. >> And now they're saying they're gonna have a day of action on February 10 where they demonstrate in front of Scientology locations? It's really dramatic. And you know what? You all kind of scare me so I am not saying a word. Anonymous? I am not a Scientologist. Scientologist? I am not an SP. See? Totally neutral. Switzerland even. I'm Molly Wood and this has been the Buzz Report. Thanks for watching. [ music ]
