Altec Lansing Octiv Mini (M102)The Altec Lansing Octiv Mini is an ideal option for anyone seeking an affordable, minimalist iPhone speaker for the bedroom, bathroom, or kitchen.
>>Hi, I'm David Carnoy and I'm going to give you a quick video tour of the Altec Lansing Octiv Mini at least I think it's called the Octiv though it's not spelled exactly like that it might be the Octiv. It also goes by the Model number M102 but what this is a tiny iPod speaker dock that's designed to save space on your bed stand and it's compatible with both iPods and the iPhone. It is GSM shielded so you won't get any static. It is a very, very simple speaker, is very small. Has an interesting cut away design in the back so it doesn't look like a cube exactly and from certain angles it actually looks like it might tip over but is does have enough support in the back. It doesn't have any features. No buttons. No nothing. It's all done through your iPod or your iPhone and there's also a free Altec Lansing alarm clock app called Alarm Rock. You download that and that turns this into an alarm clock. Around back you will find an auxiliary input on this model so you can attach other audio devices. However, Altec Lansing has said that in the future it might remove that input so check before you buy because we can't guarantee it will be there in the future. Now, for such a compact speaker as you might expect you aren't going to get huge sound out of it. Not a ton of bass here but it does sound bigger than it looks and the sound is half decent. Not great but half decent and that's all you can ask for from a compact little speaker like this. It is $59 list. We expect to see it more in the 40 to $45 range and perhaps come down even slightly more than that. It's not exactly a bargain at that price but if you are looking for a space saving simple little speaker for your bed stand, this certainly fits the bill and we can recommend it. I'm David Carnoy and that's the Octiv Mini from Altec Lansing.
