Alexa, can anyone dethrone the Echo?
The Amazon Echo is king of the voice controlled smart speakers, but don't expect it to be dethroned any time soon.
Because according to a forecast from eMarketer, Amazon and its Echo devices are expected to take 70% of the market in the US this year.
That report puts Amazon far ahead of its biggest rival, Google Home.
Which is estimated to take around 24% of the smart speaker market.
Now Amazon doesn't share numbers on how many Echoes it sells, but the report estimates that there's gonna be double the amount of Americans using smart Speakers this year compared to last year.
In total, that's about 35.6 million people.
Demand for these voice-controlled smart speakers is quickly on the rise as customers are getting more comfortable with the technology.
And people are willing to give it a try now that prices are dropping.
Amazon just knocked $30 off of its Echo.
It's part of a Mother's Day sale that ends May 13th.
The price cut could also be a hint that a new echo is on the way.
We've been reporting that Amazon is expected to soon release another version with a screen on it.
But Amazon and google may have bigger competition soon.
Because Apple is reportedly working on it's own version of a home speaker hub and that would be controlled with Siri.
And there are a other few brands popping up in this space, Harmon just announced Its own speaker, the invoke.
It'll control your smart home and answer your commands with Microsoft's Cortana digital assistant.
