Mobile World Congress 2017
A waterproof phone coating you won't believeThis up-and-coming waterproof tech from P2i makes your mobile dunk-proof, without any design sacrifices.
Hi, I'm Luke Westaway for CNET here at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. We're taking a look at an exciting new type of phone waterproofing tech. It's P2i's Dunkable system. So most waterproofing on smartphones happens using mechanical barriers. That means that the phone has actual bits of waterproof hardware bolted on to the side like gaskets to stop water getting in. This technology doesn't require those mechanical barriers though. It applies a nano-coating of a polymer, and that's actually done in a plasma chamber. And what it means is that you can take any smartphone. You don't have to have special waterproof design and you can make it completely waterproof. I think waterproof smartphones are great. It's definitely something that should be standard on our phones and tablets these days, and I love the idea of not having to make any design compromises to make that technology waterproof. You'll be able to buy phones that use P2i's Dunkable technology later this year. I'm Luke Westaway for CNET. Check out CNET.com for much, much more from Mobile World Congress.
