The Buzz Report
A Microsoft Christmas CarolMicrosoft goes begging for Zune sales, the BlackBerry Storm arrives, and we hit Jerry Yang with the door on his way out.
Hi, I'm Molly Wood, and welcome to the Buzz Report. This week, a fond farewell to Jerry Yang, the iPhone 3G comes to the masses, and cats team up with robots. But first, it?s the Gadget of the Week. The Gadget of the Week is the BlackBerry STORM! YES! Finally! We?ve been waiting for this phone forever--if there?s one that looks to be a true iPhone killer, it could be this one. Big touch screen with a ?clickable? onscreen keyboard, a 3.2 megapixel camera that takes video, its own application store, a nice sleek design, 3G data speeds, which is rare for BlackBerry, and of course, all those really high-end corporate e-mail features. And in the U.S., it?s about $200 with at two-year contract. Yeah. I said the same thing. Damn. We got ourselves a game now, sports fans! In the big news of the week, Yahoo CEO Jerry Yang announced that, after presiding over a share price drop from almost 30 dollars to 10 dollars, the rejection of a 33- dollar per share purchase offer from Microsoft, a Yahoo shareholder revolt that ended in a shakeup of the board, the failure of an $800 million-dollar a year search deal with Google, and the layoffs of more than 24-hundred people, he?s going to go ahead and step down as CEO. Yeah! I think that sounds like a plan. In other news, a Boy Genius report says Wal-Mart AND Sam?s Club will start carrying the iPhone 3G on December 28. We don?t know why it?s coming three days AFTER Christmas, but we do know that the news causes early-adopter iPhone snobs everywhere to chuck their phones into the nearest river and start looking for a phone that?s not so?EVERYWHERE. Perhaps?a BlackBerry Storm... Moving on, Microsoft this week announced price cuts to its flash-based Zune players. The 4 gigabyte model is now just 99 dollars, while the high-end 16-gig version is $179, down from $199. The company said it hopes the price cuts, plus new ads for the Zune software, will hopefully let them have a ?good holiday season.? Wow, that is sad, like really sad. (music) ?Zunes, Zunes for sale. Help Microsof have a happy holiday. Zunes! Try an iPod alternative. 38,000 farthings getst you a Zune. How about you mum? Have a Zune?? ?So cold.? And finally, let?s have a look at what?s clogging the tubes. I was trying hard to stay away from the cute little animals this week, but no one could escape the viral onslaught of the cat riding a Roomba. (motor souunds) They have transportation now. Next thing you know they will be ordering their own food. They don?t even need us anymore. AND that's the Buzz Report for this week, everybody! I'm Molly Wood and thanks for watching.
