Dell Inspiron 11

With a price that harks back to the glory days of netbooks, Dell's Inspiron 11 still packs in a touchscreen and Intel processor.

Dell's Inspiron 11 combines a low price with solid specs in a very attractive package.

At just AU$499 (and currently with AU$100 cashback if you're buying online) the Inspiron 11 has a price that reminds us of the netbook era of affordable computing.

But you're getting quite a package from Dell for that price. It's an Intel Celeron 2955U CPU running at 1.40GHz, with Intel HD Graphics, 2GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

The 11.6-inch screen is touch enabled so you can make the most of the 64-bit version of Windows 8.

In the time we've had it in the office, we've been impressed with the Inspiron 11. Yes, it's a plastic case but a surprisingly stylish one. The keyboard is particularly nice to use, and the battery life is extensive. The interior is also a very pleasant matte black that doesn't get immediately smeared with fingerprints as soon as you start typing.

Yes, there are some trade-offs — you're not getting a Full HD screen, for example, but with a 1366x768 resolution, it's not actually too shabby at all.

Considering you're getting a fully feature laptop for not a hell of a lot more than a Chromebook, we think that Dell's aggressive pricing policy on the Inspiron 11 might prove to be a very clever move. You're certainly getting quite a lot of bang for your buck with this laptop.
