Production begins on "Star Trek: Discovery"

A 'unique story'

Get hyped!

Our first look at the USS Discovery came at Comic-Con 2016 and now the show will finally premiere in less than a month! Since then the ship here has changed, but it's designated as NCC-1031, a Walker Class vessel.

In the meantime, check out every photo, trailer and video we had to share with you here and read up on everything we know about "Star Trek: Discovery" so far.

Editors' Note: This gallery is consistently updated with new photos. It was originally published July 18.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will star Michelle Yeoh as Captain Philippa Georgiou (left) and Sonequa Martin-Green as First Officer Michael Burnham -- the main protagonist of the series.

On the left of the bridge is Lieutenant Saru, member of a new alien species called Kelpiens, and played by Doug Jones. He is presumably checking out what's on the viewscreen with Burnham (center) and Captain Georgiou.

A closer look at Jones as Lt. Saru.

Jason Isaacs stars as Captain Gabriel Lorca of the titular Federation ship.

Captain Lorca poses on what looks like possibly a very screen-filled bridge.

Played by Anthony Rapp, Lt. Stamets is an astromycologist -- and the first openly gay character in a Star Trek series. His partner will be Dr. Hugh Culber, medical officer of the Starship Discovery, played by Wilson Cruz.

Father of Spock, Sarek, is played by James Frain.

Played by Mary Wiseman, Cadet Sylvia Tilly is straight out of Starfleet.

Cadet Tilly sits at... the helm? The transporter bay controls?

Originally cast as Klingon, Shazad Latif now plays Lt. Ash Tyler.

With two ships already announced, it's unclear which shots we've seen are from which ship -- or whether they are just strikingly similar (they are both Starfleet ships, after all).

Captain Georgiou in charge. Hmm, doesn't this look a bit like a memorial photo?

Here Captain Georgiou and Burnham traverse a new planet.

And it looks like they'll play a pivotal role in the conflict of "Discovery." Mary Chieffo stars as L'Rell (left) and Chris Obi is T'Kuvma.

Klingon leader T'Kuvma is looking to unite the Klingon houses. Doesn't look like the Klingons you remember? Again, theories abound: one says that the new look may be due to the storyline taking place before the Klingon augment virus, but we'll have to wait to find out.

Mary Chieffo stars as Klingon commander L'Rell. Little is known about what role the Klingons will play in this series. The timeline of the setting is a bit wibbly wobbly between "Enterprise" and the original series, so theories abound on why these Klingons don't look like those we've seen before.

L'Rell appears to be arguing with someone offscreen, possibly T'Kuvma?

Another look at T'Kuvma, on what looks like a ship.

We do know that "Discovery" will explore the differences between Klingon houses. Kenneth Mitchell stars as Klingon commander Kol (pictured) and recently spoke about the Klingons at the Star Trek Convention in Las Vegas, saying the show will explore the 24 Klingons houses and their leaders.

Captain Georgiou (Yeoh) commands the USS Shenzhou NCC-1227, a Walker Class vessel.

Played by Rainn Wilson, who teased at Comic-Con that he got to see the transporter room, be a transporter and hold a phaser -- none of which bodes well for our heroes, but sounds great.

The seriously gold transporter room looks like a crazy -- wait a second, are they wearing armor?! Well, that's new.

In what looks like the same room, we see Burnham and her armor close up.

The concept art alluded to this big moment, and the second trailer confirms it.

Also this weekend at San Diego Comic-Con 2017, CBS will release two limited-edition posters on a first-come, first-served basis. One features the USS Discovery in space.

The second exclusive poster appears to show an officer on an unnamed... planet?

Sure, there's no horse, but both the first look *and* the beginning of the first trailer were covered in sand.

Potential hologram (or memory?) Captain Georgiou imparts wisdom (maybe?) on Burnham.

"Star Trek: Discovery" will be released on CBS All Access September 24. This is one of the latest marketing posters.

Speaking with EW, Martin-Green said her character is fully human, but was the first human to attend the Vulcan Learning Center, and then the Vulcan Science Academy. She also has a close relationship with Sarek (Spock's father), which we see in the first trailer.

In January 2017, CBS announced production had officially begun with an in-production teaser.

We spoke with executive producer Alex Kurtzman about the future of Star Trek and how "Discovery" will be different.
