The new Samsung Wireless mobile media streaming drive is very similar to the Seagate Wireless Plus. For now, though, it only comes with a mobile app for the Android platform.
The device is basically a USB 3.0 portable drive with a built-in battery and an embedded Wi-Fi access point, all in a small package about the same size as the Seagate Wireless Plus.
On the side it has a power button and indicator lights to show the power status and the status of the Wi-Fi network. Up to five Wi-Fi devices can connect to the Samsung Wireless drive at a time.
The device comes with a USB power adapter that works anywhere in the world. It also comes with an extra USB port to also work as a juice pack.
It can work both as a mobile media streaming server and a juice pack at the same time. The built-in battery has enough juice for it to work for some 7 hours. It can charge any devices that use standard USB charging.
The Samsung drive is available in the US for $180 and in Europe for €180. It comes with a three-year warranty.
