Christmas Gift Guide

The Samsung Galaxy mini doesn't take itself too seriously, with its lime-green trim surrounding its home button and case. But that's not to say that it doesn't have some serious smart-phone brains on the inside.

The Galaxy mini has Android 2.2 Froyo on board, which means you can install plenty of apps and games from the Android Market. Unfortunately, the mini's 320x240-pixel screen has the bare minimum resolution to run most apps.

Nevertheless, there is lots of fun to be had, thanks to the Galaxy mini's excellent Web browser, which displays pages quickly and accurately. Staying connected should be no problem either, thanks to the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi and speedy HSPA connectivity.

With the Android Facebook app installed, sharing photos from the mini's 3-megapixel camera should be easy, and updating your status as quick as a wink. That makes the Galaxy mini a decent-looking option for social butterflies on a budget.

The mini may not be the slickest-looking smart phone in Samsung's quiver, but if it's as cheap as we think it will be, it has nothing to be ashamed of. In person, the plastic case isn't quite as wobbly as we expected, and a textured back will even help you hang on if you tend to drop your phone.
