Little details

If you haven't paid much attention to Pantech before, you're not alone. Yet the Discover offers a lot of very compelling reasons to consider.

First, there's the price: just $50 with a two-year agreement. Then there are the specs, which fall into the middle-high end of the range. Finally, there's the subtly unique design. To top it off, the phone exhibits very few flaws.

Pantech's "easy experience" lives up to its name, reducing multiple home screens and menus to just one. It's a good choice for people who prefer a more basic interface, or who want some smartphone training wheels.

Most smartphones today are as uniformly thin as can be. The Discover, however, has two bumps on its back that fit the hand well.

Have you heard of a smartphone with ears? The Discover's 3D surround-sound speakers pump out tunes and more.

The Pantech Discover has a -- wait for it -- 12.6-megapixel camera with flash and a 2-megapixel front-facing camera. Not bad for $50! And the cameras are serviceable as well.

The Discover's camera produced satisfactory photos overall.

Small details like a lightly grooved power button and a textured soft-touch finish work in the phone's favor.
