The second-gen Nest Protect will also let you silence an alarm with your phone and can tell the difference between smoke and steam.

Nest Protect

It's pretty technically impressive. A split-spectrum sensor can differentiate between a slow fire and a quick one, and it's built to last ten years.

The new Nest Protect will retail for $100 -- the same price as the first Nest Protect -- when it hits the market next month.
