The iPhone 4S is finally official, and it's, er, almost exactly the same as the iPhone 4. Still, a new iPhone is not to be sniffed at, and while it may look just like its predecessor it has a few nifty features running under the bonnet. Click through the images above to ogle the 4S from every angle, and learn more about the new hardware and software on board.

The iPhone 4S has the same casing as the iPhone 4, but the hardware isn't identical all the way down. There's a new processor mixing things up in the form of Apple's dual-core A5 chip, which Apple thinks will make the iPhone 4S run graphics seven times faster than the iPhone 4 did.

That hopefully won't impact battery life too heavily -- Apple's betting you'll squeeze 8 hours of talk time over 3G from this mobile.

The other big feature is an upgraded camera. The 4S packs an 8-megapixel snapper, with some extra features such as back illumination and face detection. 1080p video recording will also be possible.

Once you've recorded that video, you can shine it up on to a big screen using Apple's AirPlay tech. Nifty.

One of the more interesting new features is a voice assistant called Siri. Voice control has never really worked, so we'll be keen to see whether Apple can be the company to nail it. It looks very sophisticated -- for more info check out our in-depth preview of the iPhone 4S.

It's out in the UK on 14 October, starting at £499.

It's not the major upgrade we were hoping for, and we wonder whether this relatively minor revision will be enough to keep Apple on top for another year. What do you think? Let us know down in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.

This is the iPhone 4S.
It comes in black or white, 16, 32 or 64GB flavours.
It looks just like the iPhone 4, but has an 8-megapixel camera.
A new A5 chip makes it more powerful though.
Siri is a voice control feature that appears to be very powerful.
You can also export your iPhone 4S' video to your TV using AirPlay.
