Yahoo to screen Barclays Premier League football highlights online

Yahoo is to show online highlights of Premier League games, starting next season, with five-minute packages for every match

Yahoo is to show online Premier League highlights from next season. You'll be able to watch Wayne Rooney, John Terry and Cesc Fabregas on your computer as Manchester United, Chelsea and Arsenal fight it out for the Barclays Premiership title over the next three seasons.

Yahoo will feature a five-minute highlights package of every top-flight match. The videos will be live from midnight on Sunday after weekend games -- just in time for you watch first thing on Monday morning while the boss is still getting his coffee. Highlights of midweek fixtures will be live at midnight the same day. Highlights kick off in August, with the deal running until 2013.

Satellite channels Sky and ESPN currently have the rights to live games, while the BBC shows highlights on terrestrial. Yahoo may syndicate the highlights to other Web sites. The highlights will be ad-supported, although Yahoo hasn't yet got back to us about whether the videos themselves will contain ads.

The announcement comes as the bosses of the 72 Football League clubs meet today to discuss how broadcast money and other Premier League income is distributed to lower-tier teams.
