Yahoo posts 2001 Buzz Index

Yahoo on Wednesday said PlayStation 2, Britney Spears and the World Wrestling Federation topped its 2001 Buzz Index, a measure of the most popular searches on the Web portal's network for the year through Dec. 15. In a release, the company noted that world news dominated in the final three months of 2001 following terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center. But taken as whole, entertainment drew the most interest for the year. Five of the top 20 entries were pop music acts, including Jennifer Lopez (11), 'NSync (12), Eminem (14) and the Backstreet Boys (17). The World Trade Center ranked 6th while Osama Bin Laden pulled in at No. 15. Nascar racing legend Dale Earnhardt, who died in a crash earlier this year, ranked 8th. In game consoles, Microsoft's Xbox finished the year at No. 29, while Nintendo's GameCube came in at No. 81.
