Week ahead: Earnings marathon

Microsoft, SAP and Amazon.com will be among the information technology giants to roll out their quarterly results in the next few days, possibly giving the markets a lift.

Following are some of the notable tech-related events scheduled for the week of April 18.

The 108th running of the Boston Marathon kicks off the week. On the earnings front, Microsoft, SAP and Amazon.com will be among the information technology giants to roll out their quarterly results in the next few days, following a disappointing week in the markets. Positive results from these and other companies could provide a lift.

  • EarthLink is an Internet service provider. It's expected to report a first-quarter profit of 7 cents a share.

  • Lucent Technologies is a telecommunications equipment maker. It's expected to report a second-quarter profit of 2 cents a share.

  • Motorola is a cellular phone maker. It's expected to report a first-quarter profit of 7 cents a share.

  • Server and workstation maker Silicon Graphics Inc. is expected to report a flat third quarter.

  • Leading Economic Indicators summarizes previously reported totals such as building permits and unemployment claims. It's expected to rise to 0.3 percent for March, compared with flat results for February.

Friday, April 23
  • Durable Goods measures the value of all goods shipped or ordered with an intended life span of three years or more. The March total is expected to fall to 0.7 percent, compared with 2.5 percent in February.

  • Producer Price Index is a broad measure of the price of goods at the wholesale level. March growth is expected to reach 0.3 percent, compared with 0.1 percent in February.
