In a move that could signal the imminent launch of iPhone 6, Walmart is drastically cutting its iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S prices.
A Walmart spokesperson told CNET that as of Friday, the iPhone 5C 16GB will cost $29, down from $49, and the iPhone 5S 16GB will cost $99, down from $149. The new prices are available with a two-year contract on AT&T, Verizon, or Sprint. The updated prices are for in-store purchases only and start on Friday at 9 a.m. "local time."
Typically, as Apple gears up to release its new iPhone, retailers. Weeks before the iPhone 5S and 5C , the price of the iPhone 5 plunged at retailers like Walmart, Best Buy, and Target.
Besides Walmart, other retailers are starting to offer lower prices and deals for the iPhone 5C and 5S. For example, Best Buythat let users trade in old versions of their iPhones for the 5C and 5S at steeply discounted prices. The iPhone 5S went on sale for $100 and the 5C for $50.
The lowered iPhone 5S and 5C phone prices aren't the only indication that the alleged iPhone 6 is forthcoming. Theover the past couple months with leaked images of a larger 5.5-inch phone with an enhanced camera and a possible curved display. Speculation pegs the release date for August or September.
In addition to cutting the price of its iPhones, Walmart is also lowering the price of the iPod Touch 16GB fifth generation from $209 to $195 starting on Friday.
