The JFAX service combines normally disparate communications technologies into a single email box, allowing users to access voice and fax data with the aid of special software from the company.
The service includes a JFAX phone number, initially available in Atlanta, London, and New York, which automatically forwards voice mail and faxes to a user's Internet email address. The service, which starts at $12.50 per month, is also offered through a toll-free number in the United States and will be offered through local numbers in other cities by the second quarter, including Tokyo, Hong Kong, Paris, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Chicago, Sydney, and Washington, D.C.
To access fax and voice mail through an email address, JFAX users need to install the JFAX Communicator software for Windows 95, Windows 3.1, and Macintosh, which can be downloaded from the Internet. Initially, users can receive faxes only through email but will be able to send faxes and receive voice mail in coming months.
