Critics haven't been kind to "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice," which opened in theaters this week. It currently sits at a 30 percent not-fresh rating on movie review site Rotten Tomatoes, and reviewers are throwing around words like "absurdity," "slog," "hostile" and "exhausting." It's enough to make an actor feel a little down in the dumps.
The movie marks Ben Affleck's first crack at playing Batman. He and Superman co-star Henry Cavill sat down for an interview to discuss the film. YouTube user Sabconth took the footage, made a few adjustments and published it under the title "Batman V Superman - Sad Affleck" on Thursday.
The interviewer asks Affleck and Cavill whether they have seen the "mixed response" reviews and how they feel about them. Sabconth's remix includes some of the more scathing headlines.
Cavill launches into a thoughtful in-depth response to the question, but his voice quickly fades out and is replaced with the melancholy tones of Simon & Garfunkel's "The Sound of Silence." The video slowly zooms in on Affleck's downward, contemplative eyes.
The Sad Affleck video plays on a popular Internet meme known as Sad Keanu, showing actor Keanu Reeves sitting on a bench looking unhappy.
This isn't the first time Affleck and his turn at Batman became a meme. Back in 2014, Sad Batman turned into a minor phenomenon when creative Web dwellers photoshopped a sneak peek of Affleck in his Batsuit into a variety of amusing scenes. Seems like the poor superhero can't catch a break.
