Verio, an Internet service provider and Web hosting company, announced a restructuring plan and layoffs Tuesday designed to reduce costs, focus on big business customers, and accelerate the company's expected time to profitability. A wholly owned subsidiary of Japanese carrier NTT Communications, Verio, which plans to cut its 3,000-person work force by 25 percent, will consolidate many of its regional offices and data centers to increase its efficiency.
The company also plans to reorganize into new business units targeting specific customer segments. Verio previously primarily served small and midsized businesses in the United States, but now intends to also focus on multinational corporate customers with the help of parent company NTT. Tokyo-based NTT bought Verio last year.
