No need to book that hour-long trip across the city in an Uber -- the ridesharing app has just started playing nice with public transport.
Uber has joined forces with transport app TripGo to link public transport routes with ridesharing cars. That means TripGo users will now be able to plan out their entire route from A to B using multiple modes of transportation, including rail, roads and ridesharing.
TripGo already integrates different transport methods in the one app, letting you compare how long it would take to walk, cycle, motorbike or drive to your destination, or use a combination of these modes with other public transport options like trains, buses, trams and cabs.
Now, Uber is joining the party in what it's calling an Australian first.
"TripGo users will be given access to real time ridesharing and public transport data to allow Aussies to request and synchronize Uber rides with public transport connections, effectively bridging the first/last mile gap," Uber said in a statement.
Just enter your location and destination into the app and TripGo will show you the trip length and approximate cost of an Uber ride, or link it up with other public transport that will get you some of the way for less.
The TripGo app is a free download on the App Store and Google Play, and the feature is available in Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, Brisbane, Gold Coast, Newcastle and Sunshine Coast.
