We previously reported on instances of Quicken 2004 crashing after the recently released R2 update is applied. In most cases, Quicken crashes right after the splash screen. The only workaround available was to re-install Quicken 2004 R1 from the original CD.
Now Intuit technical support indicates that there may be another solution: holding down the option key at startup to avoid opening the default data file, which seems to become corrupt for some users after the update.
MacFixIt reader Roy Purtell writes "According to Intuit, the reason that Mac Quicken 2004 R2 is quitting during startup is that something is corrupting the data file. To restart Quicken without automatically opening data file. Hold the option key during start up. Then have quicken open backup file #1. [...] Works for me."
