Troubleshooting Mac OS X 10.3.1 Update: Files updated; USB fix?

Troubleshooting Mac OS X 10.3.1 Update: Files updated; USB fix?

Files updated If you're the curious type, below is a list of files updated or replaced by the OS X 10.3.1 Update. (Thanks, Pacifist.)

  • The Terminal application.
  • The mount_webdav Unix executable, used to mount WebDAV servers (type man mount_webdav in Terminal for more information).
  • The loginwindow application (/System/Library/CoreServices/loginwindow.app).
  • The IOStorageFamily kernel extension.
  • The webdav_fx kernel extension.
  • The JavaVM framework.
  • Various information, .plist, and man files related to the above files.

USB fix? After installing the 10.3.1 Update, reader Robert Cowie reports that his USB Flash Drives -- which refused to function for him under Mac OS X 10.3 -- are now functioning properly. Indeed, as mentioned above, one of the files updated by the OS X 10.3.1 Update is the IOStorageFamily kernel extension, which affects USB storage devices.
