Trading halted on NYSE

The New York Stock Exchange halts stock trading at midday but resumes an hour later following technical problems.

The New York Stock Exchange halted stock trading at midday but resumed an hour later following computer problems.

Trading was halted at 1:16 p.m. ET, the exchange said. Other U.S. stock exchanges, including the Nasdaq and regional exchanges affiliated with the NYSE, were unaffected.

By 2:15 p.m. ET, trading had resumed, with the Dow Jones Industrial Average up 60 points on light trading. The tech-heavy Nasdaq gained 28 points, as the S&P 500 index added 10.

A faulty network switch was responsible for the brief shutdown, according to a spokesman for the NYSE. The switch was replaced, he added.
