Toshiba ups density of flash memory

Toshiba announced Monday that it has co-developed, with SanDisk, technology allowing flash memory to reach densities of 1 gigabit per cell. The result is that more data can be stored on a flash memory card at less cost. Flash memory is typically used in consumer electronics devices such as digital cameras, cell phones and handheld computers. The company is already sampling the technology to flash memory makers and expects to have 2-gigabit parts in 2002.
