Titanfall 2 rumoured to include grappling hook, bigger maps

New gameplay details seemingly leaked on Titanfall subreddit.

Titanfall 2 will introduce new pilot abilities, a grappling hook, and have bigger maps according to a post on the game's subreddit.

The information, which has since been deleted, was leaked by the subreddit's moderator, ilovegoogleglass, who cites someone "in the know" as their source.

According to the leak, Titanfall 2 will release in October. This falls in line with previous indications from publisher EA, which previously confirmed in an earnings report that it is scheduled for a fiscal Q3 release. This period spans October 2016 through to the end of December 2016.

The leak also says developer Respawn Entertainment has introduced "a ton of new pilot abilities including the addition of a grappling hook."

The grappling hook can reportedly be used for getting into Titans from a distance, pulling enemies out of the air, and to extending free-running.

Maps, meanwhile, have been made larger to accommodate an increased player count in multiplayer matches.

The post includes artwork, which you can see above. It's worth noting that the image doesn't feature a grappling hook or the sword revealed in the teaser trailer. Since these would likely be two of the key new gameplay concepts, their absence from what is supposedly promotional artwork is conspicuous.

In a separate leak, a Facebook fan page for Mountain Dew's Game Fuel states there will be a promotional tie-in with Titanfall 2 for the beverage. This, the Reddit post claims, is also legitimate.

GameSpot has contacted EA for a statement on the leak.

Battlefield 1, another high-profile shooter from EA, is currently scheduled for release on October 21. EA has said it doesn't believe launching Titanfall 2 and Battlefield 1 in the same period is a bad idea.

"We feel we have a really strong position to deliver the broader set of gameplay mechanics as it relates to the first-person shooter genre across two titles," said CEO Andrew Wilson. "I feel very confident that we are well positioned to do very well in that category in the year."

Unlike the first game, Titanfall 2 will be released on PS4 in addition to Xbox One and PC. The game will be showcased at EA Play, which is the publisher's E3 showcase.
