The PS4 may already have production issues

Reports have suggested that Sony may not be able to meet its initial shipment goals for the PlayStation 4 by the end of 2013.

We reported back in March that sources had suggested that Sony wanted to ship at least 16 million PS4 units worldwide by the end of the 2013.

Now, DigiTimes is reporting that the Japanese company may not be able to meet this goal, with its supply chain manufacturers reportedly not receiving any shipment instructions at all from Sony. The component manufacturers had expected that shipments details for their manufacturing centres would have been processed already.

It's still unknown what areas Sony will begin sales of the PS4 in, although the company has traditionally launched in Japan, with the US following, then Europe. This model, however, was based on the NTSC/PAL regional split.

Sony hasn't commented on the report, but we'll update with more information regarding Sony's regional retail strategy for the PS4 as it comes to hand.
