StubHub scores NBA jersey ad with Philadelphia 76ers

Popular ticket website will have its logo on NBA team's jerseys, the first of the four major US pro sports leagues starting next year.

Score one for StubHub.

The popular website where you can score tickets to sporting events and concerts, will soon have its logo appear on actual game jerseys of the NBA's Philadelphia 76ers, the first major North American pro sports team to have such a sponsor.

The StubHub patch will appear near the left shoulder of Sixers jerseys starting in the 2017-18 season. The sponsorship deal with the San Francisco-based company is reported to be worth $5 million as part of a three-year pilot program with the league.

"Since day one, StubHub has been a pioneer and innovator within the live entertainment ecosystem and we could not be more excited to join the Philadelphia 76ers in making history with this ground-breaking partnership," said StubHub president Scott Cutler in a statement Monday.

"The essence of our relationship with StubHub is our shared culture and ambition to innovate, which drives us to reimagine traditional partnership activation and continually ask, 'What if?,'" added Sixers CEO Scott O'Neil.

Maybe the StubHub deal is a sign of things to come for the Sixers, arguably the worst pro sports team in America. The team has averaged less than 20 games in each of the past three seasons after going a dreadful 10-72 this season, the worst record in the NBA.

That gives the Sixers are an odds-on favorite to win the No. 1 overall pick in Tuesday's NBA draft lottery. Good luck.
