The "Super-Fan Builds" webseries showcases the impressive skills of movie prop designers, led by film industry veteran Tim Baker. With his crew of craftspeople, Baker builds amazing tributes to TV shows, movies and video games for superfans nominated by their family and friends.
In this week's episode, posted Monday, Baker and crew built a "Star Trek" Enterprise home office for super-fan Jake Geiger, who was nominated for a geeky surprise by his girlfriend Christina Haberkern.
Because Geiger's office is already packed with "Star Trek" collectibles, his girlfriend figured it would only be logical to ask the "Super-Fan Builds" crew to make him something that would make even Spock raise an eyebrow in approval.
After all, this fan also has art of the famous Vulcan with actor Leonard Nimoy's autograph tattooed on his leg.
So Baker and his talented gang of artists and prop builders designed and built a desk using the main disc of the classic U.S.S. Enterprise as their model, with the rest of the ship used to make a chair worthy of Captain Kirk.
The intricately detailed computer desk, made from heavy-duty foam and fiberglass resin, looks ready enough to explore other galaxies, but for the time being, it's equipped with a USB hub so the pilot can navigate the Web. Needless to say, Geiger was happy with his new home office furniture.
"I love it, it's amazing," Geiger said in the video. "It's a little small." But accurate!
